HCP Protects EAA Region

The first meeting of the Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan ( HCP) Implementing Committee will be held Monday, January 30, 2012. The HCP seeks to resolve the longstanding conflict between the federal mandate to protect threatened and endangered species associated with the Edwards Aquifer and the region's dependence on the same aquifer as a primary water resource.

Public Hearings Scheduled

The EAA will hold a series of public hearings in January to receive comment on proposed changes to EAA rules and on a proposed budget amendment and a program aquifer management fee rate, all of which pertain to the implementation of a Habitat Conservation Plan.

Critical Period in Effect

Stage I Critical Period for the San Antonio Pool requires permit holders to reduce usage by 20%. Stage II for the Uvalde Pool requires a 5% reduction in usage in Uvalde County.

Irrigation Users Information Meetings

The EAA will hold a series of informational meetings focusing on on how Critical Period pumping reductions will impact irrigation permit holders in 2012. Workshops are scheduled on December 20th, 21st, and 22nd.
